Quickey update

It has been 206 days (7 months) that Coby has been prednisone free & over a month of being chemo free!!! He's still doing good, despite his poor appetite these past few days. It may be related to the restart of the cyclosporine, so we are holding off on that for now. Hopefully this will bring his appetite back. All he will eat are cheap-o milkbone biscuits! LOL

  1. Hi!
I was wondering what the doctors are saying about the GME now is he free from it? I'm from Norway and I found your blog when searching for information about GME. My dog was also recently diagnosed with GME. After a super long time with different tests that is basically the only disease that they haven't been able to exclude. My dog, bella's neurologist says that it's poor prognosis and that she has btw 6-12 months and there is no cure for it. But we are at the moment only giving her prednisolone and azathioprine and after reading your blog I see that you gave Coby chemotherapy. So now I'm gonna talk to my dogs neurologist because he hasn't even mentioned that this was a possibility in terms of treatment for her and he said there was no cure. So I just wanted to thank you for a very informative blog and I hope that Coby will live a long, healthy and happy life :)

  2. Juni - I'm glad you found Coby's blog & it's been helpful to you. There is no "cure", but you can certainly get your dog into "remission". Did you read the protocol we used? We had an aggressive prednisone schedule for the first 6 months, along with the chemo. Coby has been prednisone free for 233 days. He's been off all chemo for a couple months. Check out the GME yahoo group http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/NewGMEDogs/
    - you will find Dr. Sisson's protocol in the welcome message. Perhaps you can show your neuro & maybe he would be willing to follow it?

  3. Thank you for introducing me to this group! I have received the protocol and e-mailed it to Bella's neurologist. Now I'm just hoping that he will look into it soon and help us. I'm so glad to see that Coby is doing well! I can't imagine how hard this past year must have been for you...
